NSW Premier Chris Minns has announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19, forcing him to miss the start of the state parliament’s final sitting week.
In a social media post, Mr. Minns disclosed that he had taken a rapid antigen test, which confirmed the diagnosis, after experiencing unwellness in the morning.
“I’m currently at home, and while there are no mandatory self-isolation regulations, NSW Health strongly advises staying home until symptoms subside to safeguard our community,” he wrote.
“I’ll keep you all updated, but I anticipate returning to work in a couple of days.”
It is understood that Mr. Minns attended a press conference with Housing Minister Rose Jackson in Meadowbank, Sydney’s northwest, before testing positive.
NSW is experiencing a rise in COVID-19 infections. The most recent NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report, ending on November 18, indicates “moderate to high levels and continues to increase.”
“COVID-19 activity increased across all indicators in the past fortnight,” it stated.
“The proportion of ED presentations for COVID-19 requiring admission was stable suggesting no increase in disease severity.”
